Day 2 in Voru was a great day. Being back not just in the first town we ever did a mission event in in Estonia but being back with the first ever local church we ever partnered with in Estonia! We spent the day in a local high school, which for me has been one of the stand out moments of the tour so far, packed out gigs during break times and lunchtimes, the headmaster being open to us, openly christian, being in his school and giving young people a wee taste of the gospel, this is all new stuff and very exciting.

Many of the students came out that night to the gig in the local church and heard the gospel message for the first time ever!! They all took home a bible and will read it….for the first time ever. Enough said. You know what this could mean for these precious young souls, please keep them in your prayers as we believe and expect God to begin revealing himself to them through His word.

Friday we travelled to Tartu, we love Tartu and our friends there are simply amazing. Thanks to the church that hosted the event, you guys are truly the key to seeing many young people finding faith in God in your city.

That night in Tartu was an incredible breakthrough moment for this mission, I wish I could share all the ridiculously amazing things that happened that night but need to see them progress just a wee bit before we can really let everyone in on it. Rest assured it was the kind of moment you dream about when you responsible for a project/mission and trying to fathom out how to keep moving it forward….I for one am very excited  ; )

Today is Saturday and we are, as I write, driving back north to Tallinn having been to the Baptist Union Mission Conference this morning. Tonight will be our first time off and we are looking forward to being in Tallinn for a few hours of down time tonight where we can chill and reflect on how amazing this trip has been.

Tomorrow we are speaking at a baptist church in Tallinn in the morning and have a gathering of the team in the evening for a de-brief.

Monday morning we have meetings with the Estonian Bible Society over breakfast before we fly home just after lunch to Manchester and drive back to Glasgow, should get home around 9pm.

Really do appreciate your continued support in so many ways, with prayer, encouragement, finance. We consider you all to be part of the team and you should know that your efforts are seeing lasting fruit here in Estonia and helping to change a generation and bring them closer to God.

You Rock  ; )

Estonia Mission - Blog 2

Yesterday was an amazing day. We had the opportunity to play and witness in places where christians have previously never been able to make a stand. This is God opening doors and we are gladly walking through them.

After a day of gigs in the local High School many young people came out to the local youth centre/skatepark last night where there has never been any christian message preached before and they heard the gospel message preached and all took home a bible. We even saw kids reading it outside the venue!

Today ( thursday ) we were in another school here in Voru. Again, a door opened. The school Direktor loved the team so much he extended the lunch hour to let us play more and afterwards insisted we come back to the school next time we are in town.....we agreed this would be good  ; )

So tonight we play again in a different part of town here in Voru and we are expecting another good turn out of local youth who will get crazy, mosh about a bit and then get to hear the life changing message of Jesus redeemer and king....get in.

We have been invited back to play at a small festival here in June 2014 which we will do and we are allowed to give out bibles to the 500 people who will be there.....amazing.

Thanks for all your prayers and support amazing people this is turning into a bit of an epic trip.

Until the next blog

So we have arrived back in Estonia for another 8 days of mission to students and giving out more bibles.

It was so great to see our friends meet us at the airport and we spent a lot of the journey from airport to Tallinn talking about how amazing the last 3 years have been and how God has taken us on a pretty unexpected but beautiful journey. We had no idea where we were going when we started, no idea how to get there or what God had in store for us but it is great looking back on the journey so far and so exciting looking forward and thinking about what lies ahead.

Day 1 was taken up with production meetings and team meetings which went well, food and much needed sleep followed.

Day 2 we headed south to Valga which is at the very southern tip of the country and we were about 1k from the Latvian border. We were returning to a church with an American youth pastor, Chris, it was great to see him and his wife again. The event was great, lots of young people from the town came along, they heard the gospel message and all took away a bible. Also a young girl who had been along to the church in the past but not for a long time spoke to Laura, Chris's wife and said, "Ok, I am ready to follow Jesus". Amazing stuff, one more young life changed forever. The church were excited and so were we, a great start.

I am writing this blog as we travel to the next town Voru, it was an early start and I am particularly excited because we are returning to the town where we did our first ever mission event in Estonia 3 years ago! Even as I write it seems amazing that so much time has passed. I am reminded of how important it is for us to just be obedient and follow God's leading in our lives. None of what we are doing made any sense, especially in the early years, but God knew and we just followed and now it is all clear, we have seen so many come to Christ, we have a brand new youth bible an amazing team of people and so many plans for the future.

So, be obedient, follow God's lead, don't be discouraged, persevere and be blessed.

Ok, I'm started to feel sick now so will stop writing  ; )

Until the next blog

2013 in PREVIEW

This is going to be a busy year.

Here is our year ahead in Preview:

1. 2 new releases planned.

2. Launching a Youth Bible in Estonia that we have been developing with the Estonian Bible Society for 11 months now.

3. Launch the 'Truth Tour' in Estonia in connection with the youth bible launch and start touring the nation giving out bibles to students. We aim to give away 150,000 bibles over the next 3 years. ( let me know if you want to help ).

4. Making our first trip to Russia to visit 4 cities including Moscow where we will be playing and giving out thousands of bibles to students.

5. We will play another 30 dates and reach the '200' date mark on our 'Battle for your Soul' Tour. Reaching over 50,000 young people with the gospel and seeing well over 1000 responding to the gospel and many others challenged by the message.

6. We will launch our own UK Youth Bible which we will begin giving out at our UK 'Battle for your Soul' events. We want every young person in the UK to be offered the chance to own a bible. ( need your help on this one also ).

7. Release our second Music Video from our new record.

8. We will play at 3 or 4 major UK festivals to help us raise awareness of the mission work we are involved in around the world.

9. Continue to work in partnership with Compassion and see many more children released from poverty.

10. We may play a few regular gigs! If we have time......but it's highly unlikely ; )

Finally.......we will, at some point in the year, be launching a new project, our biggest yet and we are stoked about it and know you will be too.....can't wait to let you all in on it real soon.

Good day today in Tartu, big turn out for the lunch time gig and now in coffee shop in the old town for a team meeting and beginning to dream up mission into Russia next year with Mr Anthony Jessop.

Excited at the doors that are starting to open. We are determined to do this right, not going to rush it. Looks like I will come over in a few months and meet together with some Estonian and Russian pastors to see if there is any way that we can serve them in reaching out to students in the areas that they live.

Please pray that God would give us wisdom to find the right people and do the right thing that will reach the most.

We are planning another mission to schools in October for Tallinn and will be back in Tallinn again this May for a big festival in Freedom square and 3 other outreach gigs. This is a great opportunity to preach the gospel in the main square in the capital.

Ok people continue to pray that God would lead us help us this week as we continue to reach out to the students here in Tartu.

INDIA BLOG DAY 4

Today has been a day of challenges, a day of understanding a day of despair that led to hope.

I visited one of the Compassion Child Survival Projects about 2 hours south of Calcutta.

It was, of course, extremely witnessing the levels of poverty on clear and open display, it was hard to think how it could ever change and it was frustrating as hell knowing that it does not need to be like this. The imbalance of power and wealth in the world, as you well know, is shocking and so full of injustice. And I am part of it, part of the problem and I want to be part of the solution.

However, when I heard the stories, the testimonies of the mothers that were there with there small children, when I heard them talk of renewed sense of hope and faith since finding faith in God and experiencing the tangible benefits of the compassion project in their village.....I was filled with great hope also.

Parenting skills, feeding programme, health checks, educating mother and child, mothers learning how to read and write along with there children, skills being taught that can be used for wealth creation, helping them to provide for their family......this is the real deal people and everyone needs to be helping....EVERYONE, THAT INCLUDES YOU!

We have all heard the phrase 'Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, but give him a fishing rod and he eats for a lifetime and feeds his family too". What I saw today was this very thing in action. All of the staff at the projects are local people so jobs are being created also.

Then this evening we heard testimonies and stories from some teenagers who have been given full scholarships through Compassion! Children who came through the Child Sponsorship Programme and have now been given the chance to further their education.

Their stories, their attitude and their character was beyond what I can justifiably describe. They were, quite simply, magnificent young people, a credit to themselves, their families and Compassion.

These young people told us, first hand, how Compassion ( or really Christ through Compassion, their words ) rescued them from a hopeless, choiceless future and has given them the chance they deserve, and along the way they found Jesus for themselves also.

I cannot really explain to you how overwhelming it was today, but I do know that it has changed me forever, cliche maybe....I don't care. I am changed!

Missing my family

INDIA BLOG DAY 1 and 2

So left from Glasgow at 6am Monday morning, flew to Heathrow met up with rest of team then on to Dubai. Flew Emirates for the first time, really nice, although no single malt!! Odd, although 1200 different channels on the plane including about 300 movies, bonkers. I watched Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy and a Bollywood film about....well I don't know what it was about but there was a lot of smiling and dancing.

It was a quick change in Dubai and then on to Calcutta. We were met by some local Compassion staff and taken to the hotel. Total travel time from house to hotel 23 hours.

Quick shower and food then into Calcutta where we visited the Home of Mother Teresa and also her grave. This was a great thing to see where she lived, the room where she stayed for her 47 years of pouring her own life out to the poor in Calcutta.

Calcutta is amazing, so full of life and colour, bustling vibrant hive of activity. It is a real attack on the senses, so much noise ( mainly car horns, bike horns, pushbike bells ) utter chaos, driving is beyond mad, even more crazy than I expected. But so good, all of it, just so good. It made me realise again just how utterly bland our British culture is increasingly becoming with the endless drive away from the high street and into mega malls and one stop buy all wether you need a 4 man tent, a new tyre for a mini metro or a dozen custard filled doughnuts. I prefer the Indian way ; )

We visited a temple and a few other local attractions which was great.

Of course, high levels of poverty are visible at every turn and everything inside of you wants to just reach out to everyone who is asking. It is strange to be in a situation where literally everyone is looking at you like..."who the heck is this pasty white guy walking down the street".

We then went to visit the children at the Missionaries of Charity Mothers House which is an orphanage started by mother Teresa. This is hard to put into words and impossible for me to explain how it made me feel and how it affected me, well the whole team really. It was of course heartbreaking, distressing and difficult to even know what to do or what to say being in a room full of beautiful children, all of which were completely dependant upon the amazing volunteer staff at the centre.

It was an amazing thing to see everyone on the team instinctively just start loving the kids there, playing with them feeding them, cuddling them....

It was a sobering time and a lot of tears where shed, as you would expect. I spent my time there just really holding a wee boys hand, and talking, trying to make him smile....I think he probably thought I was a bit weird as I was pretty much balling my eyes out the whole time...lol.

It was hard to leave there and I was thankful to God for the staff who are giving their lives every day to care for these desperately ill and orphaned children. These are basically kids who have been abandoned and found in a street or maybe left in a hospital....you get the picture!

Anyway we wandered back through the streets to our bus and then back to the hotel for a meal and sleep as we had not slept for about 29 hours by this stage.

DAY 2

Day 2 started with breakfast ( just coffee for me ) and then off to the Compassion Headquarters to meet the team and have the chance to find out more about what they are really doing, day to day, with the projects all across West Bengal and further out into most of East India.

I have to say, I was hugely impressed with the Compassion team there. They have a massive workload but seemed super-organised and all of them clearly saw what they were doing as a calling from God and not a job. Their level of faith for what they are trying to achieve is also inspirational. I would like to spend a lot more time with these brilliant people.

In the afternoon we got to visit our first Compassion project. Just a brilliant brilliant place with amazing staff and the children....well what can I say, they were great to be with, so full of life and hope, despite their quite desperate situations and the deep levels of poverty that is their daily experience, they were full of joy and I know that this is mainly due to the fact that they have been so positively affected through the sponsorship programme. I also got to play cricket with some of the local youths......what can say.

The best part of the day for me came next. We where so thankful for the chance to take a walk to the home of one of the children we met at the project. We split into small groups and made several home visits. This was truly wonderful, to be welcomed into a Hindu home, me a Christian in India, sitting with a Hindu family, sharing stories, exchanging gifts and meeting many members of the local community, including the child's great great grandmother, who was 105!

This I love about Compassion - 80% of the children they are helping are Hindu, they love them, care for them, help them. Yes, Compassion is Christian and yes Compassion want the children they meet to find Jesus, but no, there are no religious barriers stopping us and the compassion team and every christian man or woman who ever sponsored a child from stopping them loving these kids, regardless of what they believe. That is just like jesus and I love that.

We heard an amazing story about a situation last year when some christians where suffering terrible persecution and churches where being burned to the ground. In the region where Compassion had a presence, the local hindu community gathered around the christian church where the compassion centre was based and formed a human wall, preventing the mob from torching the truly amazing.

A few pics attached also.

They said it would be life changing....it is.

'Battle for your Soul' UK Tour Blog Wk1

Newcastle, Penrith, Coventry.

3 locations,

700 people,

812 miles,

28 songs,

20 more young souls rescued........

bring it!

The Battle for your Soul Tour is unashamedly about winning souls to Christ. It's about taking the gospel message to the people. This tour is not waiting for people to come and ask, its taking the message, taking the truth, taking the Gospel out into the world and telling it to the people who need to hear it the most.

This weekend reminded all of us involved in the tour, the bands, the evangelists, the production crew and the excellent and amazing local church people who partner with us to make this all happen, it reminded all of us why we do this, week in week out for the last 11 years. We do it because we are called to do it, we are called to reach the lost, any way we can.

This is our way.....what's yours?
